The city of Chicago is divided up into seventy seven defined community areas and many less defined neighborhoods. Click below to learn more about the community areas and neighborhoods that make up the city of Chicago.
Far North Side
Rogers Park is Chicago’s northernmost neighborhood and community area along the lake.
West Ridge is located just to the west of Rogers Park and contains the neighborhoods Arcadia Terrace, Peterson Park, and West Rogers Park.
Uptown borders lake Michigan on the far north side of the City. It contains the neighborhoods Buena Park, Margate Park, and Sheridan Park.
Lincoln Square is known for it’s German Heritage. The neighborhoods within it’s borders include Ravenswood, Ravenswood Gardens, and Rockwell Crossing.
Edison Park is located on the far northwest side of the city of Chicago.
Norwood Park is also located on Chicago’s northwest side. It is home to the neighborhoods Big Oaks, Old Norwood Park, Oriole Park, and Union Ridge.
Jefferson Park can be found on the far northwest side of the city. Gladstone Park is also found within it’s borders.
Forest Glen contains the neighborhoods Edgebrook, Old Edgebrook, South Edgebrook, Sauganash, and Wildwood. It is one of Chicago’s northern most areas.
North Park is just east of Forest Glen. It is home to the neighborhoods Brynford Park, Hollywood Park, River’s Edge, and Sauganash Woods.
Albany Park is one of Chicago’s most diverse neighborhoods. It contains the neighborhoods Mayfair, North Mayfair, and Ravenswood Manor.
O’Hare is the part of Chicago where you will find the world famous airport with the same name. This community area is also home to the Schorsch Forest View neighborhood.
Edgewater borders Lake Michigan just south of Rogers Park. Within it’s borders you can find the neighborhoods Andersonville, Edgewater Glen, Edgewater Beach, Magnolia Glen, and Lakewood/Balmoral.
Northwest Side
Portage Park is located just to the west of Irving Park. It’s neighborhoods include Belmont Central, Władysławowo, Jefferson Park, Old Portage Park, and Six Corners.
Irving Park can be found just west of North Center. It is home to the neighborhoods Avondale Gardens, Independence Park, Kilbourn Park, Little Cassubia, Old Irving Park, Merchant Park, and The Villa.
Dunning is Chicago’s westernmost area on the north side of the city except for O’Hare. Within it’s borders you will find Belmont Heights, Belmont Terrace, Irving Woods, and Schorsch Village.
Montclare is a small community area on the far west side of Chicago.
Belmont Cragin is home to the neighborhoods Belmont Central, Cragin, Hanson Park, Kelvyn Park, Hermosa, and Galewood.
Hermosa is best known for being the birthplace of Walt Disney. It contains the neighborhoods Belmont Gardens and Kelvyn Park.
North Side
North Center is a family oriented area that contains the neighborhoods Horner Park and Roscoe Village.
Lake View is home to the Chicago Cubs and is known for vibrant nightlife. It contains the neighborhoods Lake View East, Graceland West, South East Ravenswood, and Wrigleyville.
Lincoln Park is centered around DePaul University and offers a mix of family friendly neighborhoods along side the college focused nightlife. The neighborhoods in Lincoln park include West DePaul, Old Town Triangle, Park West, Ranch Triangle, Sheffield Neighbors and Wrightwood Neighbors.
Avondale borders the city’s west side and contains the neighborhoods Belmont Gardens, Chicago’s Polish Village, Kosciuszko Park.
Logan Square is a neighborhood known for it’s and diverse culture. It includes the neighborhoods Belmont Gardens, Bucktown, Kosciuszko Park, and Palmer Square.
West Side
Humboldt Park is located just to the west of West Town and is known for it’s strong Puerto Rican community.
West Town is home to many vibrant neighborhoods including East Village, Noble Square, Polish Downtown, Pulaski Park, Smith Park, Ukrainian Village, and Wicker Park.
Austin can be found on the far western edge of the city. It contains the neighborhoods Galewood and The Island.
West Garfield Park is a small community area on the western side of the city of Chicago.
East Garfield Park is just east of West Garfield Park and contains the Fifth City neighborhood.
The Near West Side is located just west of downtown (The Loop) and is home to the United Center. Within it’s borders you will find Greektown, Little Italy, The West Loop, Fulton River District, University Village, Illinois Medical District, South Water Market, and Tri-Taylor.
North Lawndale can be found just west of the Near West Side. It contains the neighborhoods Lawndale, Homan Square, and Douglas Park.
South Lawndale is a community area on the west side of Chicago that is also home to the Little Village neighborhood.
The Lower West Side is located just southwest of downtown (The Loop). Within it’s borders you will find the neighborhoods Heart of Chicago, Heart of Italy, and Pilsen.
Central
The Near North Side is the area just north of downtown (The Loop). Within it’s borders you will find the neighborhoods Cabrini–Green, The Gold Coast, Goose Island, Magnificent Mile, Old Town, River North, River West, and Streeterville.
The Loop is The heart of the city and home to most of the city’s commerce. It also contains the Near East Side and West Loop Gate neighborhoods.
The Near South Side is the area just south of downtown (The Loop) and contains the neighborhoods Dearborn Park, Printer’s Row, the South Loop, and the Prairie Avenue Historic District.
South Side
Armour Square is where you will find US Cellular Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox. It’s neighborhoods include Chinatown, Bridgeport, and Wentworth Gardens.
Douglas is located on the near south side along Lake Michigan. Within it’s borders you will find the neighborhoods Groveland Park, Lake Meadows, the Gap, Prairie Shores, and South Commons.
Oakland can be found just south of Douglas bordering Lake Michigan.
Fuller Park is located just south of Armour Square.
Grand Boulevard is home to the Bronzeville neighborhood.
Kenwood is a community area on Chicago’s south side that borders Lake Michigan.
Washington Park is located just west of Hyde Park.
Hyde Park is home to the University of Chicago Campus and also includes the East Hyde Park Neighborhood.
Woodlawn is located just south of Hyde Park and also includes the West Woodlawn neighborhood.
The South Shore is located along Chicago’s southern lakefront.
Bridgeport is one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods.
Greater Grand Crossing contains the neighborhoods Grand Crossing, Parkway Gardens, and Park Manor.
Southwest Side
Garfield Ridge contains the neighborhoods LeClaire Courts, Sleepy Hollow, and Vittum Park.
Archer Heights is located just to the east of Garfield Ridge.
Brighton Park is a community area in on the southwest side of the city between Archer Heights and McKinley Park.
McKinley Park is located just west of Bridgeport.
New City contains the neighborhoods Back of the Yards and Canaryville.
West Elsdon is just north of West Lawn and known as West Lawn’s Twin neighborhood.
Gage Park is located right in the heart of the southwest side of Chicago.
Clearing is home to the neighborhood Chrysler Village.
West Lawn is known for being a melting pot of many different cultures.
Chicago Lawn is home to the neighborhoods Lithuanian Plaza and Marquette Park.
West Englewood is directly east of Chicago Lawn. It shares much of it’s history and culture with Englewood.
Englewood is bordered by Garfield Boulevard to the north, 75th Street to the south, Racine Avenue to the west, and State Street to the east.
Far South Side
Chatham contains the neighborhoods East Chatham, West Chatham, and West Chesterfield.
Avalon Park is home to the neighborhoods Avalon Park, Marynook, and Stony Island Park.
South Chicago is on the lakefront and contains the Bush and South Shore neighborhoods.
Burnside is a community area on the south side also known as “the triangle.”
Calumet Heights contains the Pill Hill neighborhood.
Roseland can be found on the far south side and is home to the neighborhoods Fernwood and Rosemoor.
Pullman contains the neighborhoods Cottage Grove Heights and London Towne.
South Deering is a geographically large region that includes the neighborhoods Jeffrey Manor and Trumbull Park.
East Side is a south side neighborhood bordering Indiana.
West Pullman is on the western edge of the far south side.
Riverdale is one of Chicago’s southernmost community areas. It contains the neighborhoods Altgeld Gardens, Eden Green, and Golden Gate.
Hegewisch is Chicago’s southernmost community area bordering Indiana.
Far South West Side
Ashburn includes the neighborhoods Beverly View, Mary Crest, Parkview, Scottsdale, and Wrightwood.
Auburn Gresham is located on the far southwest side of the city.
Beverly is the home of the South Side Irish Parade.
Washington Heights contains the neighborhoods Brainerd, Longwood Manor, and Princeton Park.
Mount Greenwood is on the southwestern border of Chicago. It is home to Mount Greenwood Heights and Talley’s Corner.
Morgan Park is just south of Beverly. It includes the neighborhoods Beverly Woods, Kennedy Park, West Morgan Park.
